Poroshenko declines Lutsenko’s statement of resignation

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko did not accept the letter of resignation of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko. The press office of the Presidential Administration reported, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

‘The President returned the letter of the Prosecutor General, considering that Yuriy Lutsenko received the vote of confidence in the Parliament (only 38 MPs voted for the resignation during the preferential voting),’ the Presidential Administration claimed.

The Presidential Administration advised that Prosecutor General Lutsenko has important tasks to fulfill.

As it was reported earlier. On November 7, in his speech at Ukraine’s Parliament Lutsenko announced his resignation from the position of the Prosecutor General. He passed a written statement to the President for signing. According to Lutsenko, he would resign because he could not let be the duality of power in the country when the law enforcement system is being destroyed without evidence even for solved offenses.

Lutsenko was appointed Prosecutor General of Ukraine in May 2016.
