President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko received a doctorate degree of Istanbul University. The event took place during the official visit of the Ukrainian leader to Turkey, reports the press office of the Presidential Administration.
‘It is a great honor to receive the doctorate degree of this honorable educational institution and to join the cohort of glorious figures who are awarded this title. Turkey is a very important country for me,’ Poroshenko claimed by receiving the doctorate degree.
The Сhief Education Officer of Istanbul University noted that this degree is given for the promotion of democratic values in the world and efforts for strengthening of the Ukrainian-Turkish relations.
‘Throughout our political activity, you strengthen the Ukrainian-Turkish relations,’ he said.
Poroshenko started his visit to Turkey from the opening of a memorial table at the building, where the embassy of the Ukranian People’s Republic in the Ottoman Empire was located in 1919-1922. Later, the President visited Istanbul University, where he met with the students and the teaching personnel of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature.
