The Ukrainian Parliament will consider transfering part of the confiscated funds of former President Yanukovych for the development of Ukraine’s defense capacity. Head of the Ukrainian state Petro Poroshenko claimed this during today’s meeting with the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov and Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko.
‘Of course, I will refer to the Parliament and the government will make the relevant offers, too. The parliamentary coalition and individual lawmakers will discuss a very important decision – to strengthen the defense capacity of our country’, Poroshenko stressed.
He added that the costs will go to support Ukrainian weapon factories and to buy the modern means of electronic warfare, counter-fire radars, and the modern armament - everything for proper modernization of the Ukrainian army. Construction of the new dormitories for the contract soldiers and military hotels for the officers will be funded, too.
Earlier today, the State Financial Monitoring Service blocked 1.52 billion of U.S. dollars on the accounts that belonged to Yanukovych and other former Ukrainian officials. The Government claims that part of these funds will go to the state treasury.
