President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he had discussed with the German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel the scenario of exerting pressure on the Russian Federation to implement the Minsk agreements, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"A considerable part of the time was devoted to coordinating the implementation of the Minsk agreements. It was stated that the Russian Federation does not comply with the Minsk agreements and we need to develop a scenario that would motivate Russia to sit down at the negotiating table and fulfill what it promised, primarily with regard to the security component", said Poroshenko.

According to the president, everything should be done to restore peace on Ukrainian land, so that the occupation ends. And Ukraine has full support from Germany in this regard.

"In addition, we agreed that if the Minsk agreements are not implemented, the EU sanctions will be continued with high probability. It is very important that this meeting was held on the eve of the G7 summit, where the issue of Ukraine will be raised on the agenda. And this issue will also be considered at the meeting of the G20, "added Poroshenko.

The parties also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation with Germany, including the assistance to Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"The financial support for the reforms has been agreed and the significant success of the Ukrainian team in the implementation of reforms has been noted," the Ukrainian president said.
