U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo postponed his trip to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Cyprus due to unrest in Iraq. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the State Department message.
"Secretary of State Pompeo is forced to postpone his visit to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Cyprus due to the fact that he needs to stay in Washington to monitor the situation in Iraq and ensure the safety of Americans in the Middle East," the statement said.
New travel dates of the Secretary of State will be determined soon.
Earlier US State Department revealed the details of Mike Pompeo’s visit to Ukraine. In particular, he should meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Secretary of State Pompeo will pay a visit to Kiev, where he will meet with President Zelensky, Foreign Minister Prystaiko and Ministry of Defense Zahorodniuk to reaffirm U.S. support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," - the report says.
In addition, Pompeo will attend the ceremony of laying flowers at the memorial Wall of Memory near Mikhailovskaya Square in order to honor the memory of those who died in Donbas.
