Ukraine's Oleg Sentsov, illegally held in the Russian prison, has announced a hunger strike. Natalya Kaplan, his sister said that as quoted by Hromadske.org. According to her, this is Oleg's protest against the illegal detention of Ukrainians in Russia and the occupied Crimea; this is how he demands to release them.

Sentsov told his lawyer Dmytro Dinze he prepared his body for this step for two months, and now he is ready. He also wrote the respective appeal, which was later made public. Dinze warned him he could face irrecoverable damage to his health. In turn, Sentsov said he was ready to die if his demands are ignored.

In March, Ukraine's foreign ministry demanded that Russia release Sentsov due to his worsening health conditions.

As it is known, Ukrainian movie director Oleg Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were detained by the Russian FSB in the annexed Crimea. Both were taken to Russia. Sentsov was charged with preparing a terrorist act in Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in the high-security penal colony. Kolchenko was sentenced to ten-years-long imprisonment.
