Ukrainian authorities in their manipulations with the agreements on Donbas seem like whimsy people with whom it is impossible to agree on anything. Political expert Mykhailo Pohrebynsky said this on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
Pohrebynsky believes that Deputy Chief of Staff of the Executive Office of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak stated that it was impossible to reach an agreement with the Ukrainian side because the latter is constantly changing its position.
“This explains Kozak's emotional reaction. First, he agrees on something with his counterpart. Yermak not only agrees with it, but also signs it. And then Yermak returns to Kyiv and says the next day or in a few days: “No, nothing will be done.” I remember the story with the advisory commission, whose purpose was only to talk, to make suggestions. And still, even this time Yermak could not insist on it, if he really wanted to do it. So, it turns out to be a game with whimsy people, and I do not I want to call them swindlers, but they agree, and a day later they don't do it. They signed an agreement with the OSCE, and we saw the text of the OSCE, then we look at the text published by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. And there are differences pressed through either by the Defense Ministry or the General Staff, I am not sure. Well, how can you negotiate with such people? So, Kozak says that “talking to you is pointless,” Pohrebynsky said.
The expert did not rule out that in the near future Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will come to the same conclusion as Kozak.
“I have the impression that in some time Serhey Lavrov will also say that “it is pointless to talk to you.” I, personally, think that this is meaningless a priori. I do not perceive the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine as a serious diplomat considering what it states sometimes, it is clear that this game has nothing to do with serious diplomacy. Therefore, I think that Lavrov is unlikely to continue this pointless work,” the political expert added.
Commenting on the presence of the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk in the Trilateral Contact Group, he noted that his indisputable advantage is that for the first time the Ukrainian side talked about a compromise.
“Speaking of Kravchuk, I like the different words Kravchuk said. I like that he talked about compromise. Neither Kuchma nor Reznikov and Zelensky said anything about a compromise. Talking to Donbas representatives is also a good thing. But these are all beautiful decorations. Serious work is still decided by Zelensky and his entourage,” Pohrebynsky stressed.
According to the expert, Kravchuk's proposals are good, but peace in Donbas will not be restored with their help.
“Kravchuk's proposals are good, what can they result in? Sooner or later they will agree on a ceasefire, and there will be an exchange of detainees. That’s it. This does not mean that this will resolve the crisis and we will return Donbas. This means that the authorities do not want to fulfill the political part of Minsk. And it is necessary to return Donbas,” Pohrebynsky summed up.
