Supporters of former Georgian president, ex-Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili clashed with the police; the incident took place near the presidential administration building in Kyiv on Thursday.
About a hundred civil activists protested due to president Petro Poroshenko’s decision to strip Saakashvili off the Ukrainian citizenship. They quarreled and then fought with the law enforcers.
Briefly after the conflict was over, the police let a group of activists inside the building for further negotiations.
Earlier this week, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the decree stripping Saakasvhili off the Ukrainian citizenship. Anton Herashchenko, the Counselor to Interior Minister of Ukraine said that the government learned certain previously unknown facts from Georgia’s Prosecutor General’s Office; as of the time when Saakashvili was granted Ukrainian citizenship, Ukrainian authorities were unaware of that information.
