Polish Vice Prime Minister Jacek Sasin announced plans to establish the Institute of Truth and Reconciliation and the Museum of Volyn Victims n Chelm. this is reported by Radio Lublin.

It is noted that by declaring and publicly signing the concept of creating two new institutions, the Polish government began to honor the 77th anniversary of the Volyn tragedy.

"The Jewish nation was able to honor the memory of the victims of genocide and create the Yad Vashem Institute, and we also owe such a memory to the dead Poles and everyone who suffered in Volyn," said the Polish Prime Minister.

He called it a very important historical initiative that will restore the memory of "the crime of genocide and its victims."

According to Sasin, Helm will also honor Ukrainians who saved the lives of their neighbors or Polish members of their families.

Volyn tragedy (in Polish historiography, Rzeź wołyńska, “Volyn massacre”) - bilateral ethnic cleansing of the conflicting Ukrainian and Polish populations, committed by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the Polish Army of the Craiova with the participation of Polish battalions of Schutzmanchaft and Soviet partisans in World War II in 1943 during the Second World War in Volyn.
