The Polish Government does not plan to implement the European Defense Fund. Antoni Macierewicz, the Minister of National Defense of Poland noticed that at first it is necessary to decide for what problems the money will be spend. The Radio Poland reported this.
The European Commission wants to strengthen the security and defense of the European Union. One of the stages to do this is to launch the European Defense Fund. The annual budget of the Fund will consist 5.5 billion euro.
Macierewicz emphasized that the discussion on this issue between the ministers of defense and Heads of EU countries continues. He also added that European Defense Fund is the part of the huge project.
European Union created the European Defense Fund with 5.5 billion of euro of annual budget. The European Commission made such decision on June 7.
The Fund will be filled of funding from EU budget and financial contributions of member-countries.
It is expected that the annual budget of fund will consist of 5.5 billion euro until 2020. These funds will be directed to implement the projects in the defense researches sphere, military procurements and development of defense capabilities of the EU.
Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy emphasized that the new defense initiatives do not aim to replace or duplicate NATO. They aim to add the activity of the organizations in the defense and security sphere.
