Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland are preparing their own package of sanctions against Russian officials; these will have to do with the arrest of opposition figure Alexei Navalny. Lithuanian presidential counselor Asta Skaisgiryte and Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said so as quoted by TV3.
"As for Russia and Belarus, the Russia-related agenda includes issue of sanctions due to the arrest of A. Navalny, and whatever Lithuania and associate countries can offer the EU, especially after the visit of High Representative Borrel to Moscow", Skaisgiryte said.
Landsbergis specified that the EU is now also considering fourth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation; the Baltic States can impose these even earlier.
"Fourth package of sanctions is the European package of sanctions; so far, there are no certain criteria of how it would be completed. Basically, it is about the so-called Navalny list, about those who participated in arrest, detention, trial and perhaps about the criminals (those behind the poisoning, - 112 International). We're negotiating with colleagues from the Baltic States and Poland alike, and we hope that in the near future, the list will be passed to responsible authorities of the EU, and it will be approved on the top political level", Landsbergis concluded.
