Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal claimed that he supports the idea of introduction of dual citizenship in this country. He said so during the press conference.

"I'll share my personal view with you. Dual citizenship is a sign of a civilized country. In many civilized countries, dual citizenship is a common thing", he said.

According to Shmygal, currently, the Parliament considers several draft laws that focus on this matter. At the same time, he insisted that dual citizenship with the aggressor state is unacceptable.

Shmygal added that a huge number of Ukrainians live abroad and many of them love to enjoy the dual citizenship.

"These are millions or even dozens of millions of people of Ukrainian origin. Many of them would like to get the Ukrainian assport. Why not? Why a Canadian citizen cannot have the Ukrainian citizenship, if it's transparent and legal? These are the people who will be able to support Ukraine, participate in public life, bring in the investments and perhaps get back to Ukraine. So my stance is that there should be the double citizenship. That will make us stronger!", he said.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky also upheld the idea of introduction of dual citizenship for Ukrainians who live abroad.
