In the first quarter of 2021, Ukraine's State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin was approached due to the lack of a Ukrainian version of online store websites. Taras Kremin wrote about this on his Facebook page.
During the first quarter of 2021, during the three months of operation of Article 30 of the Language Law, the Commissioner received 1,129 reports of violations of language legislation in different areas of society, which is 10 times more than in the fourth quarter of 2020, at that moment 144 reports were received.
"The most widespread are reports of the absence of the Ukrainian version of online shopping sites and websites on the provision of services in the state language - 446. Each of the website owners was sent letters demanding to eliminate violations. 249 citizens from different regions of Ukraine complained about violation of their rights to receive information and services in the state language in small shops and well-known retail chains, as well as in pharmacies, beauty salons, gyms, restaurants and cafes," the statement said.
Most citizens who complained about the violation of the right to receive information and services in Ukrainian, were from Kyiv (327) and Kyiv region (120), 108 citizens were from Lviv region, and 99 were from Kharkiv region.
The number of citizens' appeals about violations of language legislation by officials of state authorities and local self-government of Odesa, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv, and Zaporizhia oblasts remains consistently high.
As previously reported, the State Language Protection Commissioner received 944 complaints in two months.
