The US Department of Defense introduced a new National Defense Strategy, which called Russia and China the main opponents of the United States. This is reported on the Pentagon website.

This is the first change in the US military strategy in the last decade. The strategy is aimed at preventing aggression by China and Russia and using their coercion and intimidation tools to achieve their own goals and harm the interests of the US and focuses in particular on three key theaters: Europe, the Indo-Pacific region and the Middle East.

The new national defense strategy is aimed at restoring America's military superiority, the department noted.

At the same time, the ministry notes that North Korea, Iran and terrorism are also a threat.

The new strategy of the Pentagon, signed by US Secretary of Defense James Mattis, is based on the National Security Strategy adopted last December by President Donald Trump.

As previously reported, the head of the Pentagon assured that the US military role in Ukraine will not change.
