Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Andriy Taran and U.S. Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper had a phone conversation on April 9, the parties discussed the strategic partnership between the United States and Ukraine and exchange perspectives on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis. It was reported by Pentagon's press secretary.
“Secretary Esper congratulated Minister Taran on his recent appointment as Minister of Defense and reiterated U.S. support for building the capacity of Ukraine's forces to defend more effectively against Russian aggression,” the statement said.
Esper also added that European allies to need to enhance their support to the Ukraine security assistance mission.
Taran, in his turn, reaffirmed Ukraine's commitment to transforming Ukraine's defense sector in line with NATO principles and standards.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine, which is a member of the Joint Investigative Group, calls on the Russian Federation to implement UN Security Council resolution No. 2166 in the case of the downed Malaysian Boeing (MH17 flight).
