The United States House of Representatives is trying to force President Trump from office, escalating pressure on the vice president to strip him of power and committing to quickly begin impeachment proceedings against him for inciting a mob that violently attacked the seat of American government. It was reported by Deutsche Welle.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House would move forward on Monday with a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence and the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, and wrest the powers of the presidency. She called on Mr. Pence to respond “within 24 hours” and indicated she expected a Tuesday vote on the resolution.
If that fails — which is considered the most likely outcome — Pelosi said that the House would move ahead with impeachment proceedings, although she did not say when that would be.
"In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both,'' the House speaker said.
While the Democrats aimed to swiftly proceed with impeachment, they were planning to delay the trial until after President-elect Joe Biden had had time to focus on other priorities after inauguration.
As we reported earlier, US Vice President Mike Pence plans to attend President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Three sources close to Pence said he would likely make an appearance at the Jan. 20 event in a show of support for the peaceful transition of power. The decision to attend, they said, became easier after President Donald Trump publicly criticized Pence leading up to, and following, his refusal to stop the certification.
