"If all other projects fail, we will be forced to ask the international community for a peacekeeping operation in one format or another," said the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Head.
At the same time, he expressed doubt about the effectiveness of peacekeeping missions in countries where armed conflicts take place. As an example, the diplomat recalled Africa, where UN peacekeeping operations have been going on for decades.
Prystaiko also believes that Ukraine should fully implement the Minsk agreements concluded by the previous government, even if the current leaders of the country do not like them.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that no changes would be made to the Constitution of Ukraine about the so-called "special status" of Donbas, and the occupied territories were offered to develop along the path of decentralization, like the rest of Ukraine.
As we reported, Special Representative of the US State Department Kurt Volker and Assistant of Russia's President Vladimir Surkov are preparing to the joint meeting on Donbas conflict settlement. Volker said this during the briefing on the 16th annual Yalta European Strategy (YES) forum yesterday.
"We are trying to appoint the meeting for the last two weeks. I hope, it will happen soon," Kurt Volker stated.
He noted that the U.S. diplomatists communicate with France, Germany, Ukraine and the Russian Federation representatives relating to the forthcoming negotiations.
The official clarified that Washington can join the Normandy Four Summit if necessary, however, the problem is in the Russian position, which the country's representatives voice at meetings.
