“Why Metropolitan Epifaniy (the Head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) – 112.international) created the liquidation commission? Because Patriarch Bartholomew insists on the early liquidation of Kyiv Patriarchate. And that is why fulfilling the request of Ecumenical Patriarch, Metropolitan Epifaniy created the illegal liquidation commission,” Filaret noted.
According to him, the issue of the acceleration of the liquidation of Kyiv Patriarchate was raised during the meeting of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul.
“The president said that he will not interfere in the inner affairs of the church and he will treat all churches, including Kyiv Patriarchate, equally. And we are grateful to Volodymyr Oleksandrovych as he occupies the principal position,” Filaret noted.
At the same time, he stated that Patriarch Bartholomew plans to grow the congregation by the OCU parish.
“In Turkey, Constantinople Patriarchate has only 6-10.000 worshipers. And that is why he (Patriarch Bartholomew, - 112.international) needs to extend the congregation. That is why he does not concede his eparchies in the northern regions of Greece (the Church of Greece), he also owns the islands; however, it is another state. And the dream of the Ecumenical Patriarch is to make all Orthodox emigrants to belong not to their churches but to belong to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. That is why he (Patriarch Bartholomew, - 112.international) would like our Ukrainian parishes to belong to him and he wrote it in Tomos. We cannot accept it,” Filaret concluded.
As it was reported earlier, Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) did not exclude honorary patriarch Filaret from the Episcopate of the church. However, it banned him from the ruling of Kyiv eparchy, the OCU stated at the Synod session. At some point, Filaret conceded a split in the newly formed Orthodox Church of Ukraine and stated that he had the authority to convene a council.
July 31, Ukraine's Culture Ministry stated that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate ceased to be, as it merged with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Patriarch Filaret, the head of Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate turned to President Zelensky asking to extend the registration of this religious organization and protect the believers of this church.
