Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew met with Ukrainian MPs in Istanbul today. During the meeting, the patriarch confirmed that he will visit Ukraine this year, MP Yevgenia Kravchuk said on her Facebook page.

"Great news from Istanbul! At a meeting with a MPs delegation, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew confirmed his arrival in Ukraine for the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Independence - at the invitation of Volodymyr Zelensky," Kravchuk wrote.

The MP added that the last time Patriarch Bartholomew was in Ukraine in 2008.

The Office of the President of Ukraine previously reported that Bartholomew's visit could take place on Independence Day if the situation with the coronavirus stabilizes.

Earlierhe office of Ukrainian President has responded to the sanctions that the US State Department has imposed against the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky. The corresponding statement was posted on the Telegram channel of the President's Office.

“For economic prosperity and Euro-Atlantic integration, declared not only in the Constitution, but above all in Ukrainian society, Ukraine must overcome a system dominated by oligarchs. The actions of President Volodymyr Zelensky speak for themselves: in less than two years in office, he did much more for de-oligarchization than any of the previous presidents, without pretentious slogans and populism. Ukraine is grateful to its partners for their support on this path, "the message says.

The Office noted that every fair decision in the fight against oligarchs will help Ukraine become a strong and truly independent state.
