The Ukrainian Parliament has endorsed the draft law on mine action in Ukraine. 240 Ukrainian lawmakers supported the document as the basis.
The document stipulates the creation of bodies (the national authority for mine action and the center for mine action) that are responsible for coordination, execution of mine clearance works, permitting or forbidding such works - and for the quality checks in this area.
The Cabinet of Ministers will approve the national standards in the area of mine action and the list of areas that potentially or actually suffered the contamination by explosives. Such data will end up in the united state register of examination and clearance of territories.
In order to obtain the right to clear mines, the operator company will have to get the license.
The mine clearance experts will be obliged to protect their lives and health with an insurance.
The works will be funded by the government; some of the sum will be covered by foreign grants and other kinds of international assistance. Financial donors can also provide specialists, equipment and materials.
For the time being, Ukraine will live up to the international mine clearance standards - until its own national standards are developed.
