Parliament sets criminal responsibility for desecration of graves of defenders of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament set the criminal responsibility for desecration of the graves of defenders of Ukraine. The bill No. 9217 was passed Thursday, June 6.

This concerns destruction or desecration of the graves of Heavenly Hundred Heroes, defenders of Ukraine in the 20th century and participants in Donbas conflict. The respective law foresees 3-5 years in prison as a punishment.

Until now, criminal responsibility was foreseen only for destruction or desecration of a grave of the WWII warriors, members of partisan movements, victims of the Nazi persecutions and peacekeepers. The punishment is also foreseen, if a monument to any of these categories of people is desecrated or destroyed.
