Parliament extends law on Donbas special status for another year

The Verkhovna Rada extended the law on the special order of local self-government in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for another year - until December 31, 2022. 317 MPs voted for the relevant bill № 6342.

The previous law expires on December 31, 2021.

As it was reported, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on the special status of Donbas in September 2014. Initially, the law was envisaged for three years, but parliament decided to extend it.

Thus, in the fall of 2017, the Verkhovna Rada extended a special order of local self-government in Occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for a year.

After that, the parliament extended the law until December 31, 2019.

The parliament of the current convocation extended the law initially until December 31, 2020, and subsequently until December 31, 2021.
