Today's decision of the Ukrainian Parliament to sanction 112 Ukraine and NewsOne TV channels is the 'transition from clinging to slogans about European democracy to setting the dictatorship in this country'. Andriy Derkach, Ukrainian lawmaker posted this on Facebook.
It is 'an assault on the freedom of speech in Ukraine', Derkach wrote.
'I'd like to remind the government that the media freedom cannot be selective. One has to closely look at those who voted, in fact, for closing the TV channels. The history shows these 'fighters' at first burn books, then readers, then - the writers', the MP stressed.
The staff of 112 Ukraine TV channel insists that the steps made by the Ukrainian Parliament, which aim to apply sanctions against 112 Ukraine TV channel are nothing but a political decision; there is not enough evidence to make such decision, which badly lacks argumentation and may be considered unconstitutional.
