The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) made a decision on the urgent work out of the solution that will allow to return the Russian delegation to the assembly as European Truth reported.
On the results of the Bureau session that took place in Strasbourg on June 29, the leadership of the assembly took into account all offers gathered during a year by the PACE Ad hoc committee on the presence of the Russian and other delegations and highlighted those that aim at the return of Russia to the PACE.
The Bureau also ordered the Regulation Committee of the assembly to urgently prepare the resolution on the amendments to the rules and procedures of the PACE.
"It is ordered to appeal to the Committee on Rules of Procedure, Immunities and Institutional Affairs…to prepare the report with the offers on the amendments and supplements to the rules of the assembly concerning the confirmation and contestation of the authorities and rights of the national delegations to the session that will take place in October 2018," the message said.
As it was reported earlier 20 member countries of the PACE signed the declaration against Russia’s return to the Assembly’s line-up, Volodymyr Ariev, the head of Ukraine’s PACE delegation said.
In October, PACE approved the resolution, which stipulates the necessity to harmonize the rules of membership and representation of member countries in the PACE and the ministerial committee. Due to the approval of this document, PACE now may restore the membership of the Russian delegation. Ukraine offered amendments to the resolution but they were denied.
On June 27, the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE refused to visit the annual reception of Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland.
