“For bravery and heroism shown during the duty, over 900 border guards got the highest state awards. And, unfortunately, a very high price is paid for the victory over the aggressor, 70 border guards, whose name stated on the monuments to which we placed the flowers, gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine,” Poroshenko stated.
The head of state and all present people paid tribute to the memory of deceased heroes with a minute of silence.
Earlier Poroshenko stated that the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is gradually implementing the NATO standards.
On April 30, Ukraine marked the Border Guard Day.
