More than 180 countries have pledged to participate in the World Health Organization (WHO) COVAX program to fund Covid-19 vaccines, which will be distributed fairly in both rich and poor countries. This was announced by WHO Chief Researcher Soumya Swaminathan during a briefing.
"The covax mechanism is gaining its momentum. More than 180 countries, including China, have joined it. These countries are home to 99% of the world's population," Swaminathan said.
The list of countries was announced by the GAVI Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), which is working with WHO on the COVAX funding mechanism, last Friday.
As we reported earlier, the World Health Organization does not rule out an increase in deaths due to Covid-19 and other factors by the end of October-beginning of November.
According to him, today the number of cases of coronavirus is growing, but the number of deaths has decreased, fewer people get hospitalized and put under intensive care. However, given the opening of schools, high mortality of the elderly, and the infection itself, the increase in the number of deaths is expected in October-November.
