The reaction of the head of Servant of the People Party Oleksandr Razumkov on the visit of the Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition platform – For Life Viktor Medvedchuk to the European Parliament shows that the Ukrainian authorities have crossed the line.
The leader of the presidential party said about the visit of Viktor Medvedchuk: “The President did not propose, give consent or give permission to conduct such actions by any politician who is not responsible for the foreign policy of our state.” And it becomes clear that the authorities want to dictate whom, to whom and what can be told on the international arena. This is a cynical and undisguised attempt to use the information monopoly of the “war party” to impose on the West a picture of events in the country convenient to the Ukrainian authorities.
And soon the authorities will demand that any meeting in Washington, Paris, Berlin or Moscow takes place solely with the knowledge and approval of the president's entourage.
The words of the head of the pro-government party that the Prosecutor Generals’ Office or the Security Service must assess visit of Viktor Medvedchuk to the European Parliament, where at the meeting with European Parliamentarians from Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Spain, Latvia, Slovakia, the plan of crisis settlement in the southeast of Ukraine was presented, shows Mr. Razumkov's unprecedented unprofessionalism and political engagement. And it is part of our party's program.
We want to remind representatives of the presidential party that the foundation of the concept plan is the Minsk agreements, approved by the UN Security Council resolution № 2202 on February 17, 2015. This document corresponds to the Normandy Format declaration and the current legislation of Ukraine. That is why all attempts by Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko to accuse Viktor Medvedchuk of encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and state treason have failed completely. However, the new government has decided to follow the path of its predecessors, in full use of the repressive machine and dirty methods of political struggle.
‘ZE!Team’ in the spirit of Poroshenko's team is trying to keep the monopoly of providing information - both to the citizens of Ukraine and to the world community. This is why there are offensive actions against independent media, and threats of repression towards the politician and public figure, who dared to present a position on the situation in Donbas, which is different from the official one.
We urge the European Parliament to give an assessment to the Ukrainian authorities that want to regulate who can talk with the MEPs.
