The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) sent the indictment against Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan to Solomensky Court of Kyiv as the NABU reported.
Omelyan is accused of the illicit enrichment and declaration of false information.
As the investigation established, in 2015, when Omelyan was Deputy Infrastructure Minister, he purchased assets, which legitimacy are not proved by the proof and their cost significantly surpass his legal incomes. The issue is about S.U.V. BMW X5 2015 and cash, $90,000 and 25,000 euro. The total cost of the assets made $156,544.
Moreover, the NABU detectives established the facts that Omelyan put false data to the declaration of people authorized for carrying out the functions of the state and local self-government. Thus, in a declaration dated 2015, the cost of the undeclared expenses made at least $112,283 and in 2016, over $296,954.
Supposedly, the official deliberately did not mention S.U.V. BMW X5 2015, however, he is its owner, in the declaration. The expenses for the rent of the house, where the minister and his family lived, were also undeclared. In a year, the minister did not declare that he constantly used other country house and land plot in 2016.
In his turn, Omelyan criticized the activity of the NABU on Facebook and called it ineffective and stated that he is persecuted for holding reforms.
“I still wonder the reality of the Ukrainian policy. Such unscrupulous and a low game is held exactly against me, Ulyana Suprun, people who initiate and hold reforms. The Road Fund works, the roads are built, people can travel by planes cheaper than ever. More and more foreign companies open Ukraine and create new working places. The largest contract in the history of Ukraine for $1 billion on the production of locomotives without any corruption funds was signed. The truckload in the ports growths, despite the blockade of Azov. And all this is done by me and my team,” he wrote.
The minister added that the funds spent by the NABU for “Omelyan case” surpasses his funds considered being “illicit enrichment”.
NABU representatives stated that from January 1, 2000 to April, 26, 2018 Omelyan received $77,500 of official income. At least $123,214 were at his expenses within the period from 2008 till April 26, 2015.
Later, NABU detectives claimed that the crimes of Omelyan are not grave so they will demand to choose the restrictive measure for the minister in the form of bail in the sum of almost $179,000.
On September 19, Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv arrested the property of Volodymyr Omelyan.
