Head of the Ukrainian state Volodymyr Zelensky assigned Oksana Markarova as Ambassador in the USA. Decree No.75/2021 is published one the president's website.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba claimed that Markarova would become the first ambassador in Washington who is well known in the White House, including the Department of the State and Treasury of the State, and in the IMF as well.
"Having weighed all the arguments, I proposed the candidacy of Oksana Markarova ... The fact that Markarova is sent only to extort money from the IMF is nonsense. The important truth is that Markarova will be the first female Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States. These are unconditional advantages,” said the Foreign Minister.
Oksana Markarova chaired the Finance Ministry in 2018-2020. She replaced Oleksandr Danyliuk in this office in summer 2018, serving as the Acting Minister; then, in November, the Ukrainian Parliament appointed her Minister. Markarova was fired from the office in March 2020.
