The sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council against the well-known TV presenter Oksana Marchenko and her husband, Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party and MP of Ukraine Viktor Medvedchuk, are groundless political repressions.
This was stated by Oksana Marchenko herself during a press conference for the Ukrainian media. The broadcast was held by Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel.
"Absolutely groundless, unconstitutional, extrajudicial political repression against my family. There is simply not a single proof, I do not know what they are making up and inventing, of course, no, this is a lie," she said.
"What do I need? What did I need or what did we need? We live all our life in Ukraine, we rest in Ukraine. We have everything in Ukraine. Our children arrived here, our son studied and returned to Ukraine, our daughter always studied in Ukraine. Fathers, mothers, everyone, all the graves, everything is here. We are not going anywhere and were never going to leave. Tell me, how is this happenning? What kind of fairy tales and what scenarios you have to come up with to make such monsters out of us?" Marchenko added.
Answering the question of the presenter Diana Panchenko about fear after the imposition of sanctions, Oksana Marchenko said that she only fears God.
"There is fear, but fear is only before God. But all the other people, our dear Ukrainians, my beloved fellow citizens need to think that all of you need to be afraid. Because, applying to us these absolutely ugly lawless things, they can tomorrow come to you. And they won't explain why they take down your hut, your garage, maybe your car or someone will like your plot of land but at this moment you would not be able to pay the tariffs. And no one will be interested in the fact that this is yours," Marchenko says.
On February 19, National Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov announced that the Council imposed sanctions against 19 legal entities and eight individuals, including Viktor Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko. The next day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky approved the NSDC decision.
Then the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) explained that the sanctions were imposed in connection with the investigation of the alleged financing of terrorism and relate to the supply of coal from occupied Donbas territory. The department added that the restrictions provide for the arrest of property for three years.
The Opposition Platform - For Life party stated that these sanctions are an act of political repression by Zelensky administration. In addition, the party stressed that the NSDC decision is unconstitutional and brings Ukraine closer to a dictatorship.
