Well-known Ukrainian TV presenter and politician Oksana Marchenko expressed her support to the journalists of 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK TV channels illegally closed by the authorities.
She stated this during a press conference for the Ukrainian media. Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel broadcasted the event.
“First of all, I would just like to support all the journalists who have worked, work, and continue to work on opposition TV channels and say that I support you. You are the children who told the whole world that the king is naked. He hid behind that invisible, non-existent mantle of popular support. And he got scared. He was afraid of the truth that you told, because you were saying it loud and clear, and you continue to do it now.
And what did he do when he got scared? He decided to just shut your mouths. The simplest thing to do, it would seem. But one cannot shut the mouths of millions who were in the square with you and already know that the king is naked," Oksana Marchenko said.
According to the TV presenter, the closure of opposition channels, as well as sanctions against Ukrainian citizens, is unacceptable.
"Supporting you, I want to say only that millions of people today need your word, they want to hear you, this is a vital necessity, since this is a breath of fresh air, without which it is becoming more and more difficult to live in Ukraine. Therefore, if I as your colleague, can provide you with some help or inspiration now, I want to share this with you and express my support. Do not be afraid, do not give up and continue to tell the truth," Marchenko called.
Oksana Marchenko stressed that after the closure of opposition TV channels, Ukraine is no longer a legal and democratic state.
“And this must be such terrible news for all Ukrainians, because everything that happens to the channels, everything that happens to Ukrainian citizens, to my family, to my husband, to me - all this can happen to you tomorrow. This is a reality that stopped being just some kind of horror story, a fairy tale and something phantasmagoric," Oksana Marchenko stressed.
In early February, the Ukrainian authorities illegally closed three TV channels: 112 Ukraine, ZIK and NewsOne, after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the decision of the Nationa Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to impose personal economic and other restrictions.
The restrictions are imposed for five years. They provide for the blocking of assets, restriction of trading operations, cancellation of licenses, a prohibition to transfer one's rights to intellectual property objects to others, termination of the provision of services for retransmission/distribution of TV programs and other measures.
