Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova claims that her Office cannot and is not going to tolerate the madness demonstrated by the employees of Ukreximbank. According to her, all those behind the recent attack on reporters will be punished. She left the respective post on Facebook.
"I'd like to immediately react to the incident related to the brute force used against reporters at the office of the state bank. There's no place for consideration on this matter - only a fair and effective investigation, a suspicion, then handing it to the court, and then, the verdict. At the Office of Prosecutor General, we can't and we won't be tolerating the madness demonstrated by workers of the state-run bank," Venediktova said.
"Hindering the work of reporters can't be deleted from flash drives, and the responsibility is imminent. Stepping down from the office changes nothing, too. Prosecutors and policemen are actively looking into this unacceptable incident", Prosecutor General said.
Besides, Venediktova claimed that investigation activities with the attacked journalist will take place soon; the original of video footage from his camera will be included to the case materials. "We're moving fast and by the law, and the freedom of speech must remain the untouchable value in this country," she concluded.
Reporters of the Schemes project were attacked in the office of Ukreximbank. After the incident, they managed to restore the video record of this incident. Natalya Sedletska, the leading journalist of the Schemes (Skhemy) reported that on Facebook.
According to her, the restored video features the entire footage of the incident. That included the interview, the reporter's questions and everything that happened then. One can see Metsger demanding that the security take the cameras from reporters, "get the tapes and ***ing delete it all".
Soon, the journalists of 'Schemes' project restored the video, which was destroyed by the employees of the financial institution on the orders of its head Yevhen Metzger. The Supervisory Board of the state-owned Ukreximbank announced the start of a check of the reports about attacks on Schemes journalists during an interview with the bank's management.
