Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and several local officials had charge sheets signed against them. These people are suspected of illegal occupation of land parcels in Odesa. Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova reported that on Facebook. According to her, she signed five sheets, which concerned the mayor, some city officials, and "one famous resident of Odesa".
"In our opinion, all these people (it's quite possible that the number of suspects will increase) were involved in several criminal activities aimed at seizure of land parcels in Odesa. For some reason, they called this actual seizure of lands a rent, forgetting that forgery of documents and the use of service authority to implement a criminal plan are subject to criminal punishment", Venediktova said.
According to her, so far, the city budget has lost some 20 million US dollars but that sum could grow by the time the investigation is over.
Earlier, in February this year, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine informed Hennadiy Trukhanov of suspicion with embezzlement of property by the means of power abuse.
