One of the leaders of the opposition bloc faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vadym Novinsky met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades on December 29 during his working trip. He said this on his page on Facebook.
They discussed a number of issues of internal political situation in Ukraine, as well as issues of participation of the European Union in the political settlement in the Donbas.
"Mr. Anastasiadis, as the head of the European Union member countries stressed the need to implement the Minsk agreements by all parties, and stressed there is no alternative to the Minsk process for peace in Ukraine", says Novinsky.
In addition, the sides discussed the issues concerning the relations between the canonical Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian state. "The President of the Republic of Cyprus said that he considered the state interference in church matters unacceptable", said the parliamentarian.
Also, the discussion has concerned the activities of the Ukrainian opposition. "Nicos Anastasiades was in favor of non-persecution of the opposition, as well as the need to respect the rights of opposition and respect for the basic rules of the democratic political process in the country", reads the statement.
