Ukrainian lawmaker Taras Kozak of Opposition Platform – For Life commented on a story by Strana.ua that the formal reason for closure of the TV channels was the anonymous bogus story on the Russian Telegram channels that he allegedly owns the coal business in uncontrolled territories.
According to him, the statements of the authorities that the sanctions were imposed “on the basis of an anti-terrorist investigation” are a lie. He also said that information about this “investigation” is classified and is unlikely to ever be made public, because the authorities have no evidence of the accusations that were the basis for the decision to close the TV channels.
“I am telling you directly that I have no relations with the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic. My companies have never traded with so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic. Let them prove it and show it. They took some scribbles from the Internet...Someone- then threw it anonymously to Telegram channels and that's it. You wrote everything correctly. I never thought that it would be so easy to take and impose sanctions against a citizen of Ukraine. No one warned me, no one summoned me. I already said that I read about the sanctions on the Internet.
My lawyers everywhere wrote inquiries to find out on what basis these sanctions were imposed, what kind of investigation is it, what facts it contains, what evidence they have, but so far, I have not received a single answer. We will act in the legal field. Sooner or later, someone will be held responsible for these illegal decisions. It cannot be that they simply took and with a stroke of the pen destroyed three channels without a single proof,” Taras Kozak told Strana.ua.
