U.S. President Donald Trump claims that the upcoming meeting of the Normandy Four leaders may become a real chance to solve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Trump said so during the NATO summit in London.
"And I think the situation in Ukraine is very important. I think that the meetings coming up with Russia and Ukraine are very important. And there’s a possibility that some very big progress can be made. It’s very important for Ukraine. I think it’s very important from the standpoint of Russia, also, that they work out a treaty, they work out peace, because they’ve been fighting a long time. Too long. And I think there’s a really good chance that that will happen", Trump said as quoted by the White House press office.
When asked if he considered Russia a NATO adversary, Trump supported his French colleague Emmanuel Macron who stood for the NATO dialogue with Russia. "I think we could get along with Russia", Trump said.
