The first meeting of political directors of foreign ministries of Normandy Four member countries took place in Berlin. Ukrainian foreign ministry's press service reported that on July 26.
The authority reported that the substantive discussion about the prospects of the future peacekeeping operations under UN mandate took place. It should 'facilitate the implementation of Minsk agreements and the restoration of sovereignty of Ukraine over the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions'.
The ministry added that despite significant disagreements with the Russian side, Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia came to the conclusion that the basic principles of the peacekeeping operation in the conflict area will be defined further.
The Ukrainian side reiterated on its principal requirement: the mandate of the future deal should cover the entire militant-held territory, including the state border between Ukraine and Russia in the conflict zone; foresee the withdrawal of foreign armed formations, military vehicles and mercenaries, and facilitate restoration of peace in the region.
