Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel finds it important to keep contacts with Russia in order to ensure the overall security, but only after Russia abides by the Minsk agreements is the normal dialogue possible. The Chancellor phrased these ideas in her Saturday video podcast, as Ukrinform reports.
“From the point of view of European politics, security, and defense we have to make every effort to improve the negotiating contacts (with Russia). However, it includes adhering to the Minsk agreements. If that can be accomplished, we will be able to restart more active and intensive negotiations,” she said.
Merkel added that the formation of the European peace and order is possible only if Russia cooperates.
The Chancellor says that “despite the big conflicts related to Ukraine and sanctity of territorial integrity” she always advocated for continuing the dialogue with Russia, in particular, between NATO and Russia.
She also said that doesn’t find nuclear weapons essential for Germany.
