The U.S. believes that the Russian project Nord Stream 2 might negatively influence the independence of the U.S. and the European states, as RBK-Ukraine reports citing John Bolton, the U.S. National Security Advisor.
According to Bolton, the U.S. is looking for alternative sources of energy. Particularly, the launch of the new project is announced on gas supply from Azerbaijan through the trans-Caspian gas pipeline.
“The energy sphere is a very important issue. For both the U.S. and Europe. The priority is the maximal extension of the sources of energy. Too much dependence from one country, one supplier, which has a negative influence on the independence of the states. So we express our concern over the Nord Stream 2 project. We see a lot of other opportunities in this direction. For example, the attraction of the new project of oil and gas supply from Azerbaijan through the trans-Caspian gas pipeline,” Bolton said.
Earlier we have reported that Russia is on the final stage of Nord Stream 2 construction.
Nord Stream 2 pipeline will run straight through the Baltic Sea, delivering Russian natural gas directly to Germany. U.S. Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. agreed that the project is a bad idea.
As it was reported, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the European Commission would not be able to block the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
