Yesterday German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier claimed at the meeting with Poland’s President Andrzej Duda that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is the private initiative as Polske Radio reported.
‘Answering the question on the threat to the European solidarity and security imposed by the German project of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, German president said that it is the private initiative’, the message said.
In his turn, Polish President Andrzej Duda noted that the Nord Stream 2 issue is the energy security issue of Europe and reported that Warsaw implements its own gas projects to guarantee the gas security for itself and neighbors.
We are sure that the issue is also about the interests of Europe as a single unit because we do not want the situation when there is a great dominance of the Russian supplied, first of all, Gazprom’, Duda said.
Steinmeier noted that German Chancellor Angela Merkel raised the issue of Ukraine during the meeting with Russia President Vladimir Putin.
‘The issue is about to allay the concerns of Poland and Ukraine that Nord Stream 2 will lead to the stop of the transit through the territory of Ukraine. We need to find the solution that will allow remaining the gas transit through Ukraine’.
Earlier Steinmeier claimed that the concerns of Ukraine about the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline are groundless.
