US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin commented on Russia's statement about Ukraine's entry to the NATO. According to the official, Ukraine has the right to decide on its own. He said so during the joint press briefing with his Ukrainian colleague, Defense Minister Andriy Taran.

Austin added that the US are going to continue to support Ukraine.

"No third country has veto right to impede Ukraine's NATO membership. Ukraine has the right to decide on its foreign policy without foreign interference. Our support of the Ukrainian sovereignty is unwavered, and we will keep working together", said the US Secretary of Defense.

Earlier, the Kremlin stated that Ukraine's entry to the NATO could force Russia take action to guarantee its own safety. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that Ukraine's membership in the NATO would be the worst-case scenario.
