The U.S. Congress released the draft defense budget for the next year. In it, the Congressmen did not include the previously offered amendments about sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. RIA Novosti news agency reported that on December 7.

Earlier, the Republicans demanded that the sanctions be included in the bill, which is usually approved by the wide consensus of both parties. They even blocked its approval for some time, due to the absence of these sanctions.

Standing against sanctions against the operator company that runs the pipeline, the White House criticized this move by the Reps.

The draft bill is supposed to be approved by the House of Representatives and by the Senate before President Joe Biden signs it.
The document also offers to assign USD 300 mln for military assistance for Ukraine. That's 50 million more than the sum required by the White House.

Besides, Congress removed from the approved draft of the defense budget a ban on individuals from the United States borrowing sovereign bonds of the Russian Federation.
