There have been no positive steps in the implementation of Minsk agreements into Ukrainian law so far. Viktor Medvedchuk, the MP and Chairman of Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party said so at a briefing after the meeting with French lawmakers and senators on January 23.
During the gathering, Medvedchuk presented the "Parliamentary dimension of the Normandy Format".
"The ceasefire mode that was approved in the Paris communique - something that heads of the Normandy Four member states agreed on - is not implemented, because the shooting continues, and they continue on both sides. Unfortunately, there are no positive steps - neither there are any steps in terms of implementation of Steinmeier formula in the legal framework, specifically those regulating the special status of non-controlled territories," the politician said.
He added it could be done in December 2019, when his political force offered a draft bill on the implementation of Steinmeier formula and the law on the special status of the occupied Donbas. "But that draft law was not considered; another one was, and it was extended for a year, and that was it. So while addressing things they agreed on in Paris on December 9, no more steps - except for the prisoner swap - were made in order to implement the reached agreements," Medvedchuk said.
The French side was represented by French MPs, senators and members of the National Assembly.
