After the detention of Roman Pratasevich, the founder of largest Belarusian opposition Telegram channel NEXTA, the editorial staff has been facing more threats. Stepan Putilo, the NEXTA founder said so as cited by RBC.
"Lots of threats about us being next; they say that we're next, that we should be afraid of them, that they probably would not take us to Belarus and kill us on the spot instantly, that they blow up the office, et cetera", Putilo said.
According to him, the editorial staff faced similar threats in August 2020, amidst the massive protests in Belarus that unfurled after presidential elections, "but now this wave is back".
Putilo added that the editorial staff has been trying hard to minimize risks: "We've got the police next to our office, we've got emergency phone numbers, and we report all suspicious incidents to Polish police. This is why we basically feel safe, and we carry on with our business".
