NewsOne TV channel asked the President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Liliane Maury Pasquier to turn attention to the situation with freedom of speech in Ukraine. The statement was published on the NewsOne website.

“We ask you to read this statement of NEWSONE TV channel team, and we would like to draw your attention to the outrageous situation with the freedom of speech in Ukraine. NewsOne TV channel considers the decision of the National Council of Television and Radio broadcasting on impose of sanctions against the station - address to the court about cancellation of license - as a threat to the freedom of speech in Ukraine, introduction of censorship and an attempt of the new government to pressure at all the Ukrainian independent mass-media,” the statement of the channel reads.

"During realization of the unplanned audit of the TV channel for far-fetched grounds, every citizen could see the preconceived attitude of members of National Council towards the channel on their own because the results were announced by the members of National Council before the actual realization of audit. Actually, the member of National Council Serhii Kostitsky declared on session: "We know all the facts that take place at that TV channel," it was stated.

Earlier it was reported that the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine had found NewsOne TV channel guilty of incitement to racial or national hatred and decided to file a suit to deprive the channel of its license.

“Summing up, we recognize there was inciting of national, racial or religious hatred. We appeal to the court with a suit for the revocation of license. The decision was made unanimously. I thank everyone for participating in the meeting, for your views and opinions. They were very different. Thank you,” National TV Council member Olha Herasimyuk said.

At the same time, it was stated that the channel would continue to work until the court rules out the decision concerning the license.
