Newly appointed German Foreign Minister refuses to boycott 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

Horst Seehofer, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Germany claimed that he is against the boycott of 2018 FIFA World Cup that will take place in summer in Russia as Deutsche Welle reported.

The minister is sure that the political situation should not influence this issue.

'The political issues should be solved by the policy, not sport', Seehofer claimed. 'The participation in the World Cup does not mean that we will join the system, regime and authority of the host country', he emphasized.

Horst Seehofer who earlier headed the government of Bavaria occupied new post on March 14 within the forming of new coalition government of Germany. The sports issue in Germany is controlled by the Foreign Ministry.

The humanitarian and human rights organizations that work in Syria urge to boycott 2018 FIFA World Cup. Moreover, Foreign Minister Boris Johnson added that the leading Russian officials and members of the royal family are not going to visit Russia for FIFA World Cup matches. Johnson also said that the government considers the option to ban the national football team from the competition.
