Aleksandar Vuchich took oath as the President of Serbia on May 31. He will replace Tomislav Nikolich as the Radio Liberty reports.
‘I promise to keep peace and stability, to protect and defend the future of our children’, Vuchich said before he left the Parliament’s building. He was the Prime Minister of Serbia for three years before he became the president.
According to the issue, the protesters supported by the opposition parties tried to enter the Parliament’s building during the inauguration shouting: Against the tyranny. However, the police stood on their way and the clashes took place. Later a few thousands of people took part in the second protest against Vuchich in Belgrade. The protest ended without incidents.
Aleksandar Vuchich, the Prime Minister of Serbia proclaimed himself as the winner of the election on April 2. According to the official information, he polled 55% of the votes and it is greater in 40% than his opponent Sasha Yankovich who took the second place.
