Today, on February 12, Germany will elect a new federal president from five candidates. It is reported by DW.
It is noted that the new president will be elected by the 1260 members of Federal Assembly. Half of them are the deputies of the Bundestag, the others - electors who were sent to Berlin by parliaments of the federal states. The meeting will be also attended by representatives of the parties which are not represented in the Bundestag. In addition, among the electors of lands are not only politicians, but just famous people - sportsmen, actors.
It is expected that in the afternoon, the Federal Assembly session will be opened by President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert.The first round of voting will last about two hours. After that votes will counted. If one of the candidates gathers at least 631 votes, the election will end on this, otherwise the second and third round of voting will be declared.
