“Today I accepted an offer from the journalists of Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel to become a co-owner with a majority interest. I immediately signed an agreement on my non-interference in the editorial policy of the journalistic team.
The conflict between the Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel and the National Council of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting, which questioned the transparency of the ownership, prompted me to make this decision.
I consider the actions of the Security Service of Ukraine in relation to the TV channel and forceful disconnection of their contract partners, which ensure the transmission of the signal to the satellite, a violation of the rights of journalists to adequately do their work, and pressure on freedom of speech.
I am aware of all the risks associated with this decision. Unfortunately, I cannot count on the rule of law and fair courts in Ukraine today. To be honest, it was already like this before, although, it probably had never been as it is now. Nevertheless, I consider it my civic duty to support the journalistic team in its wish to tell the truth, whatever it may be.
I want to note right away that I have no financial interests with the Russian Federation, it will be impossible to make a terrorist out of me!
I wish the journalists to make challenging, daring reporting based on verified and honest information. Let three points of view always dominate in your news: each of the parties and an independent one.
It is not the authorities or opposition politicians who should assess what they hear, but our citizens, who will be the main beneficiaries of the events in Ukraine.
Good luck to you! Go for it! Full forward!,” Nestor Shufrych.
