NATO will never recognize the illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea by Russia. The Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg claimed this at the Verkhovna Rada. The session was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
'It is the first time since the end of WWII when one European country annexed the part of the other. This policy ruined the decades of progress, including with Russia, which we built to maintain the world order based on the legislation, when the borders are respected and all countries refuse from the idea of that one country is obliged to another because it is in the area of its influence. I repeated many time and want to mention this within the walls of the sovereign parliament of the Ukrainian nation that NATO will never recognize the illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea by Russia', Stoltenberg said.
Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014. Officially there is the administrative border line between the peninsula and the continental part of Ukraine but de-facto it is the real borderline. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially announced February 20, 2014 to be the beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Simferopil by Russia. Petro Poroshenko signed the proper decree on October 7, 2015. The international organizations recognized the annexation and occupation of Crimea as illegal and condemned Russia's actions. The Western countries imposed the range of economic sanctions. Russia denies the occupation of peninsula and call it 'the restoration of historical justice'.
